Inevitably every summer, we all get bored with the monotonous predictability of majority government life and begin speculating about a “massive” Cabinet Shuffle. A new Finance Minister? Will Peter McKay be demoted? What rising star is on their way to Foreign Affairs?
And just as surely, we rarely get anything more than a new International Co-Operation Minister.
We’re told this time will be different. Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, it’s a safe bet the speculation will be far more sensational than whatever Harper settles on:
PM expected to shuffle Cabinet this summer, ‘major changes,’ PMO confirms
The Prime Minister’s Office confirms Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to make “major changes” to his Cabinet likely this summer, which insiders say could be a “reinvention” exercise and an election-ready Cabinet. The Prime Minister is also expected to start a new session of Parliament in the fall with a Speech From the Throne laying out the government’s plans for the next few years before the next federal election.

I could see a bit of a shuffle. The only major portfolio I see them wanting to change is Defense… of course they need someone with cabinet experience to fill that so that could set of a game of musical cabinet chairs.
It’s amazing he’s stuck with McKay for so long. Leftover debts from the merger, perhaps?
Support out east is the most like explanation.
